The students of Pingu’s English Pekanbaru visited a post office to have a short tour and to send post cards. At the post office, they were warmly welcomed by the staffs of Pos Indonesia. They learned the history of stamps, they watched videos about post, and they also received notebooks as a participation gift.
The students had written postcards beforehand to be sent to the students in Pingu’s English Jogjakarta and Kelapa Gading, so while they were there at the post office, they submitted the postcards. They wrote some introduction about their selves and also put special stamps with their picture on it (prism stamp) so the receiver of the postcards would know how they look like. They were also given the chance to visit the delivery station where all the letters and packages were sorted.
It was a fun experience since children nowadays are rarely exposed to the conventional way of communicating. They also got to learn a new thing. After several weeks, the students received the reply from Jogjakarta and Kelapa Gading. They were very happy to have a pen pal from the other cities. Maybe next time we should send postcards to Pingu’s English students from the other countries.
